Hideaway Pizza to reopen on Western Ave. year after fire | News
OKLAHOMA CITY – A local pizzeria is reopening a year after a fire Monday.
Hideaway Pizza is reopening at 11 a.m. a little more than a year after the fire Sept. 25, 2012, that almost burned the place to the ground.
An electrical short sparked the flames at their first location in Oklahoma City last year on Western Ave.
“I have spent a lot of hours at every store and seeing one on fire and smoke coming out of one of them is not a good feeling, not a good day,” District Manager Conrad Buchner said last year after the fire.
It was built more than 15 years ago and is a staple in the community.
Officials said the fire did not destroy the entire restaurant but the smoke and water damage did affect everything, causing them to have to rebuild the entire interior of the restaurant.
Using the same footprint and exterior, the inside of the restaurant is new and now features a full 10 seat bar, as well as booth seating and additional private dining areas.
The restaurant seats 198 and employs around 60 full and part-time staff.
Co-owners Darren Lister and Brett Murphy agree that the process took longer then they would have liked to get the store rebuilt but the process after a fire is much different then just building a new location from scratch.
“We are just so glad we were able to rebuild in the same location and give our Oklahoma City guests a chance to build new memories in our new Western Avenue Hideaway Pizza!” Harris said.
Lister and Murphy will be very busy in 2014, with the opening of this location and two new locations, one in Bartlesville and the other in Owasso.
