Proposed streetcar route set to go before city council
News

OKLAHOMA CITY- A project covered by MAPS 3 that connects Midtown and downtown Oklahoma City is heading to the city council next month.

The MAPS 3 streetcar project would cover a 4.5-mile route and connect the Downtown Transit Center, Automobile Alley, Bricktown, Midtown and a block from the future MAPS 3 Downtown Public Park.

“The downtown streetcar will reduce traffic congestion, connect workers and visitors to destinations, encourage economic development and attract more people to live downtown,” said David Todd, MAPS 3 program manager.  “We are now one step closer to the streetcar becoming a reality.”

The proposed route will be heading to the Oklahoma City Council on September 24.

The $128.8 million project is set to begin in 2015 and will share the same lanes as other vehicles and cyclists.
