Man threatens shooting at vet clinic after cat dies | Crime
OKLAHOMA CITY – A metro man has threatened harm against a vet after his cat died in the clinic’s care.
Late Monday evening he allegedly made the threat against Neel Veterinary Clinic.
It was the type of threat police say should always be taken seriously.
“There was a female there,” OKC Police Master Sgt. Gary Knight said. ”She called to inform her husband that the cat had died and he was furious.”
According to police, 68-year-old Fred Meyer was so upset over the death of his cat he threatened a violent act against the clinic.
Knight said, “He talked about getting a gun and bringing it up there to shoot the place up.”
Police said Meyer threatened to bring an AK-47 to the clinic and also said he would blow the doors off.
Knight said, “It was apparently a very upsetting thing for him; he was very angry.”
Exactly how the cat died is not known.
We also weren’t able to find out long the animal had been a part of Mr. Meyer’s family.
As for clinic staff, they were unharmed.
We stopped by to see if they would talk about what happened; they declined to comment on the incident.
Police said they did the right thing by reporting the threat.
“Anytime someone hears a threat like this, particularly about taking a gun to a place and doing something along the lines of shooting people, we certainly want to hear about it,” Knight said. “It’s something we take very seriously.”
Our crew spoke with the suspect’s wife by phone; she declined to comment on the situation.
Fred Meyer was arrested on one count of threatening an act of violence.
At last check he was still held in the Oklahoma County Jail.
